NISSAN BLUEBIRD SYLPHY: Which Version Do You Like for Used Car?

The NISSAN BLUEBIRD SYLPHY was developed by renewing the BLUEBIRD and basing the car body on the NISSAN SUNNY. The concept for and selling point of the product was a warm interior environment and texture. As such, wooden panels and warm colors, such as café latte brown, were used; additionally, to give a more luxurious feel, leather seat covers were installed.

The engines carried were: the 1,497cc four-cylinder with 105 horsepower, 1,769cc four-cylinder with 120 horsepower, and 1,998cc four-cylinder with 150 horsepower. All engines were installed with great regard for environmental performance; in fact, at the time, the engines greatly surpassed the standard value of “Super-Low Gas Emission” set by the Japanese Ministry of Transport’s Low-Emission Vehicle Certification System, thus boasting advanced gas emission purifying function.

The transmissions that could be combined were: Hyper CVT-M6 for the 1,998cc QR20DD engine only; E-ATx full engine electronic control 4-speed automatic for the 1,769cc QG18DE engine; and the E-ATx full engine electronic control 4-speed automatic and 5-speed automatic for the 1,497cc QG15DE engine.

As for the interior, a two-level console box with pop-up function and a wooden panel made with Birdseye Maple were installed, and high-quality seat covers and café latte brown-colored upholstery were used, actualizing NISSAN’s efforts for a modern interior.

For the drive system, the FF and 4WD were added to the lineup. Furthermore, the 4WD was combined only with the 1,769cc engine and E-ATx full engine electronic control 4-speed automatic transmission.

In 2003, minor changes were made that resulted in improved texture for the interior and exterior.

For the exterior, the rear fender was widened, and the combination lamps were changed. In the front, the grille, bumper, and headlights were changed, introducing an air of novelty.

For the interior, black upholstery was newly introduced. As for the equipment, a foot pedal parking brake was newly installed, increasing convenience and user-friendliness.

This round of minor changes led to partial changes in the transmission; the Hyper CVT-M6 used for 1,998cc QR20DD engines was discontinued, and a Hyper CVT without a manual mode was newly introduced.

Second Generation G11 Model (2005 - 2012)

The second generation BLUEBIRD SYLPHY that was introduced in 2005 officially adopted NISSAN’s interior icon at the time, the “Modern Living Concept,” further increasing efforts to improve the texture of the interior. The interior, adopting the “S-Motion” design, featured an instrument panel in the form of an S-shaped line. The newly expanded wheelbase, lengthened by 165mm, allowed for an interior length of 1,876mm, and the rear foot space was also able to secure a length of 680mm. For the seat covers as well, silky suede material was used.
